Reflexology, and art of massage that can heal the body from within, rejuvenate it and strengthen the immune system. In most cases, a reflexologist uses a mapped chart, where reflex points are highlighted showing a connection between a reflex point and body organ.
But, this is not it; reflexology is much more than what we actually think, it has deeper penetration and can treat severe diseases, such as, diabetes and cancer.
What reflexology can do for cancer patients?
A recent study of reflexology offers the strongest evidence yet, that if done right it can treat cancer patients. According to the same study, reflexology Dubai, can help cancer patients in managing their symptoms and side effects of medicines on a regular basis. In fact, according to the study reflexology can be used a complimentary treatment to reduce side effects of medicines in cancer patients.
Reflexology is based on an idea of stimulating reflex points that are directly connected to body organs, muscles to treat a certain medical condition. The study conducted on the efficiency of reflexology involved 385 women undergoing chemotherapy or hormonal therapy to treat breast cancer at an advanced stage. The women were divided into three groups, where one group was treated by a trained reflexologist, a second group was given foot massage sessions, where it was meant to act as a placebo, while the last group was only treated with conventional medicines. The participants were surveyed after 5 and 11 weeks to check their symptoms and medical conditions.
The first group of cancer patients was observed to show a decline in breath shortness, a very common symptom of breast cancer. Perhaps, due to improved circulation and breathing they can perform their tasks on a daily routine. However, the effects are physical and not psychological, which means that it can affect positively.
The second group, where the ‘placebo’ foot massage was given, patients showed reduced levels of anxiety and stress, an unexpected result. Unlike the first group which was actually treated with a real foot massage. The discovery stunned the doctors and now they are researching on the effects of reflexology sessions given by a family member (who is trained by professional Reflexologists).
According to the same study, reflexology cannot treat or reduce the symptoms of pain and nausea (caused by chemotherapy), may be due to the high dosage of medicines provided to patients, reflexology failed to reduce their side effects.
Reflexology can treat cancer patients is still a question, researchers are struggling to find the answer, however, its efficiency in reducing the side effects and lower anxiety levels often caused by harsh cancer medicines and procedures.
